TV review #1 The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries was something I discovered unexpectedly. For the past 1 year I have been going through quite a few TV series. Then after a while I thought I ran out of the ones I might actually like. I am usually not a fan of supernatural/horror shows. So I put off watching TVD for a long time thinking it contains a lot of gore some scenes. Finally I decided to give it a try. Watched the pilot episode and got pulled right into it. My very first thought was this show is going to be another twilight and then Stefan appeared and I was more than sure then. When I first saw Stefan after all the hypes of being hot, I wasn’t impressed at all. He felt like an okay guy, honestly I expected more. Then Damon came. Charming, super-hot bad boy, things just got better.

The Vampire Diaries was a nice entertaining drama. Contains a lot of likable characters. Despite all the cliche, it had a really good story and above all that an awesome cast.  Most of the cast had awesome chemistry with each other.  I liked Bonnie first then on later seasons didn’t like her much. Hated Caroline first, then grew to love her. Then there were Tyler, Matt, Alaric, Jenna, Jeremy. Fell in love with mystic falls and its teenagers.

It started off really well with Elena and Jeremy try to move on with their life after the tragic death of their parents and their friends trying to get them through that. She was so lonely and had no one to talk to despite having all her friends. Her diary was the one thing that was helping her to get through that phase. Stefan was also in the same situation. He also had no one except his diary. They both found comfort in each other.

Caroline had her issues, she can be annoying but at the heart she was a good person and grew into a better person as she turned into a vampire. Tyler was a typical teenager with daddy issues, who knew what was right for him but never had the courage to stand up to his father. Matt truly loved his childhood sweetheart only to get his heart broken. Even though he moved on to other love interests as the show progressing there was still a part of him that always loved her. Jenna’s world turned upside down when her sister and sister’s husband died in an accident, leaving Jenna as the guardian to their two children. It was lovely to see Jenna trying to be a parent to both Elena and Jeremy.

Their lives were never the same once vampires decided to come back to mystic falls. They fell in love with some of the vampires, some became their family. The love-hate relationship between the town’s people and the vampires was always the core of the story. Gradually, they found out some of them were witches, werewolves, or vampires. Some of them were supposed to be rival species, but still gave into their friendship. Held each other’s hands through the struggle. Together they went to the hell and back. Sometimes they tried to kill each other, love each other. They stood beside each other in love and death. They loved and lost. They fell and rise. Each moment they died a little, lived a little.

Then suddenly the show turned into this love story where a girl tries to save a bad boy by loving him. Leaving everything and everyone else for that person who constantly abused and threatened her family and friends. But instead of her changing him, he changed her into a worse person!!

Caroline had a romantic relationship with almost all main male characters of the show - Matt, Tyler, Klaus, Alaric, Stefan, Damon. I understand that they wanted Elena, Bonnie, Caroline to be its central female characters. And since Elena is supposed to have found her true love and Bonnie was their magical solution to every problem, so that left only Caroline. But that was a little too much since she was one of the characters which showed real growth, she deserved better.

I just can’t stop thinking about how it would have gone in the real life. When two brothers is in love the same girl. I think in a real world Stefan would have walked away the moment he realized that his girlfriend is flirting around with his brother behind his back. Because neither Damon nor Elena is worth it. Probably Damon would have dumped Elena once their sexual tension is resolved, when the reality hit him, at the least that girl left Stefan, a much better person, for you. How could you be so sure she wouldn’t do that to you if a much hotter person comes around.

It was an exceptional journey for the first three seasons. It had one of the best love triangles in the TV history. Then it got worst in season 4 and I stopped watching. I would rather not watch than seeing a good story gets destroyed. I didn’t watch seasons 5-8, because the story lines got really bad. I was bored of the Silas, cure, Shane, hunter plot lines and the original family who die every few episodes only to be resurrected on a later episode. In my mind the story ended on Season 4 episode 1 with Stefan and Elena on the rooftop. And they lived happily ever after with all their friends.

Character Review #1 : Stefan Salvatore

At first  Stefan Salvatore reminded me of Edward Cullen. After a few episodes I got over it. Stefan Salvatore is a kind-hearted good hero material. I didn’t particularly like him first but then slowly grew fond of him. He loves his brother Damon Salvatore more than anything. No matter what Damon did he always forgives him, may be because of the guilt that Stefan was the one who turned Damon into a vampire even against his will. He isn’t always a good guy or anything, we learn that in the past he had done a lot of terrible things and all but it’s his desire to change himself to a good person and to stay good is what makes him special. He isn’t a good person because of Katherine or Elena or even Lexi. He tries to do good because he knows that is right. He tries constantly to make up for his past mistakes. Katherine did wrong both brothers, but Damon chose to do bad things and blame her for making him like that. Stefan figured out he was under compulsion and ...

Relationship Review #1: Stelena (Stefan and Elena)

Stelena was so beautiful and soul soothing while it lasted. It was one of the epic romances the TV history has ever seen. It was so simple and elegant. Their one glance or a touch was enough to make the audience fall in love all over again. All of their moments were so picturesque. Whenever I watch them I find myself hitting rewind again and again and again. Ignoring the whole Damon angle , they were a perfect couple. That was what I would call true love.  They were soul mates. They shared a beautiful bond, a companionate love. That’s why it didn’t make any sense when Elena encouraged Damon’s advances, when she chose him. It was hard to believe that she would fall for someone like Damon after she got to know Stefan, a creepy guy like Damon could actually break their bond.   If I find someone like Stefan, I would hold onto him forever, never let him go. Stefan came into Elena’s life, they fell in love. They had a lot in common, both were ...

Relationship Review #2: Delena (Damon and Elena)

Delena is one of the hottest couple TV history has ever seen. They could set the screen on fire whenever they are together. Nina Dobrev and Ian somerhalder are such beautiful people. That's exactly why majority of the vampire diaries fans favour Delena despite all their flaws.  Having said that, Delena is basically an abusive relationship. What they have isn’t true love, if anything it’s a really strong sexual attraction. They are the couple who resolve all their problems by sleeping together rather than communicate. The literally bring out the worst in each other. Elena lost her empathy, compassion, morality after they became a couple and Damon despite trying to be a better man kept falling back to his old ways. He has zero respect for her decisions and choices. He will always choose what he thinks is best for her rather than what she wants. His sole wish is to keep her alive for him, it doesn’t matter how she lives. Wanting to keep someone alive is not...
